The basic frame for the hay bale blind is made out of construction grade plywood and 2"x 4" construction lumber. If you want to, you can upgrade that to pressure treated lumber, but we're going to be covering the whole thing with black plastic, so it should be waterproof. Round hay bales are usually about six feet in diameter and five feet wide.

4. Location: Minnesota. As the title says, I finally took the time to build a hay bale blind and it turned out about how I was hoping. Hopefully it can hold up to MN weather. I was planning to make the bale 6' wide and the cattle panels are 16' long, so one of these should fit over the top perfect. Then, the sides will need to have another one. But, I'm building 2, so I can split one between the 2 blinds. They're cheap at $26 and should last longer than the erosion blankets.
