Spittal Beach a most wonderful place, in Northumberland
Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland★★. Berwick-upon-Tweed 's biggest beach can be found in the former mining suburb of Spittal, about a mile from the centre of town on the south side of the River Tweed. Deposition of sediment at the river mouth has created a tidal sand bar jutting north, while in the other direction the beach extends.

Spittal - Cocklawburn Cliff Walk. We started this walk from the car park at the north end of Spittal Beach beside the old chimney. The route we followed took us along the promenade and up onto the cliff top footpath beside the railway. Turning inland towards Scremerston we returned along tracks and footpaths through the countryside and back.
