Pilots of No. 457 "grey nurse" (Spitfire) Squadron RAAF walk briskly down the Morotai airstrip to board their aircraft preparatory to taking off on a mission against Japanese installations in the Halmahera.

A pair of Grey Nurses from No. 457 Squadron photographed during a mission from Morotai, sometime during 1945. Nearest to the camera is ZP-Z, a Spitfire HF Mk. VIII, serial no. A58-627 and ex-RAF serial MV117. Delivered to Australia in December 1944, this aircraft survived the war and was eventually struck off charge in November 1948.
