The Mercato Centrale is located in Florence's historic San Lorenzo neighborhood. The square that houses it has not always been as we see it today, but is the result of an urban reorganization that took place in 1866, in view of Florence as the Capital of Italy. Staying in Florence in apartment with cooking facilities so decided to try out the Mercato Centrale. Has lots of butcher shops, produce kiosks and many places to eat on main floor but particularly on the 2nd and 3rd floor. We purchased meat twice from 2 different butchers ( yes they actually do cut the meat right there) at reasonable prices.
