In de vroege ochtend van 3 mei 1997 stapten twee medewerkers van Het Blauwe Theehuis in het Vondelpark van Amsterdam de iconische zaak binnen. De twee collega's deden een verschrikkelijke ontdekking. Zij vonden Piet Bosters dood achter de koffie-machine. Zijn handen en voeten waren vastgebonden, en zijn achterhoofd ingeslagen.
